Renowned Travel Writer Visits Intercultura’s Sámara Campus
We get so many people from all walks of life at Intercultura, and ages – so far – from 8 to 92! One recent visitor, unbeknowst to us, was renowned travel writer Lillie Marshall, who visited us at our beach campus this August. Lillie, in her own words, is a “6-foot tall English teacher, traveler, fitness fan, Boston mama, and artist of educational cartoons, who has created over 700 articles on Around the World “L” Travel & Life Blog since 2009, which have been read more than 4.2 million times over the past decade.”
Lillie and her daughter 9-year old daughter signed up for a week of classes, and enjoyed studying on the same schedule but each in their own program. They stayed at our student residence, took part in our cultural activities, and did activities around town and at the beach. Upon her return, Lillie wrote to let us know she had written about us, and she sent us this amazing article (with gorgeous photos of the beach and school). We were thrilled to read her assessment of Intercultura’s classes, staff and facilities; first-hand testimonials are the best reference we can ask for, and happily, her experience here was overwhelmingly positive!
We invite you to read her article, Costa Rica Spanish Immersion Classes for Adults and Kids (Beach!): Review which offers many insights and tips for anyone considering studying Spanish in Latin America. Whether traveling alone, with a partner of as a family, you’ll find a wealth of helpful information in Lillie’s article.
Students consistently highlight Intercultura’s warm, welcoming staff as one of the qualities that makes our school stand out. As former travelers and language learners ourselves, we understand the excitement—and challenges—of being immersed in a new culture. We are always happy to hear when our students notice how we prioritize personalized attention: our aim is to ensure that every student feels supported to adapt, connect with the local community, and fully enjoy their experience.
All in all, a big thank you to Lillie, and a shout out to our amazing staff, who makes Intercultura what it is today. For some background – Intercultura was founded in 1993 by Adelita Jiménez, a Costa Rican educational administrator, and Laura Ellington, a nonprofit coordinator from the UK/US with a background in teaching and cultural anthropology. Staying true to its founding vision, Intercultura is now guided by an exceptional team of Costa Rican and international education professionals who bring a wide range of deep expertise, cultural insight, and genuine passion to everything they do. Many of our staff and teachers have been with us for over 10 years, and some from the very beginning! If you’d like to learn more about our philosophy or our team, we welcome you to visit our site, or better yet, visit us in person!
Pura Vida Lillie y gracias por todo!
